'Pleasant Chats over an Ink Wash Feast' Group Exhibition
9.28-10.06
KOTE Gallery 3F
Insadong1gil 7, Jongno-gu, Seoul
Opening: 10.1 5pm
The exhibition “Pleasant Chat over an Ink Wash Feast” will be held at KOTE Gallery from September 28th to October 6. In the classic French film Babette’s Feast, Babette, a poor chef who settles in a small village in Denmark, uses her lottery winnings to serve a heartfelt feast for the villagers. As the dishes are served one by one, the villagers, each with different stories and hidden wounds, gradually open up, eventually coming together to dance hand in hand. Food prepared with sincerity holds an incredible power to heal. The power of paintings created with heart is the same. This exhibition features nine artists who connected and grew closer through chatting together while learning and practicing ink painting. They describe this journey as warm and healing, much like sharing delicious food together, appreciating each other‘s works as if savoring diverse dishes. Ink painting creates infinite variations with very simple materials like brush, paper, and ink. Like the deep flavors of aged Korean soy sauce, it requires time and practice to develop rich lines. What can be a tough journey alone becomes enjoyable with companions. While staying faithful to the fundamentals of ink painting, these artists pursue a modern, contemporary sensibility of the here and now. We hope you have a moment to restore your daily life as you savor these works, presented as a delicious feast for the eyes.
