Exhibition ”Noonbit Walk“, reflecting on the History of the Unnamed, featuring photobooks from Noonbit Publishing, is held at KOTE Gallery from 8/1~8/7.
If not for the dedication and perseverance of Noonbit, today‘s Korean documentary photography would not exist. Founded in 1988, Noobit is Korea’s only specialized documentary photography publisher which entered the near-barren field and has recorded and reproduced the history and traces of life in this land for 36 years. Noobit began its journey with <People of North Korea> by French film director and photographer Chris Marker, capturing post-Korean War North Korea and has published over 800 books documenting Korea‘s modern history. Noonbit focuses its lens on ordinary people, often marginalized or overlooked who lived through turbulent times.
Noonbit believes nothing can surpass the specificity of the era’s emotions and culture captured in a single photograph and photography is not merely to be consumed, but as a medium that produces history. With this conviction, Noonbit has walked a single-minded path.
As you walk along Noonbit’s journey, please add your footprints to the voices told by Noonbit in the photographs. You can write directly on the exhibition wall or participate via KOTE’s email or Instagram DM.
